HRC – Council of Senior Statesmen

Membership of this group is recognition by the HRC of some of those who have contributed to the success of NSW rallying.

Colin Bond

Colin is a multi-skilled driver, excelling at rallying and circuit racing. He was a member of the initial Mitsubishi Colt rally team and placed the diminutive Colt Fastbacks 3rd and 4th outright in the late 1960’s Southern Cross Rallies. He was then poached by the Holden Dealer team to rally Monaros and Toranas in both rally and race configurations. A win at Bathurst in a Monaro and other events, plus 3 National Rally Championships in Torana XU-1’s simply showcased Colin’s skill. Later he drove BDA Escorts for Ford and managed the Ford Rally Team in Australia.

Gerry Crown (dec)

After running a Renault Gordini in the 1960’s Gerry has been an ambassador for NSW and Australian long distance rallying over the past 2 decades. He has competed in numerous international long distance rallies such as the Silk Road Rally, Road to Mandalay Rally, Trial of the Nile and the Peking to Paris Rally. Twice a victor in the Peking to Paris Rally is a true international achievement.

Barry Ferguson

Famed for his exploits in Volkswagens of the 1960’s, Barry went on to win the NSW Rally Championship 9 times. He drove HDT Torana XU-1’s and Monaros, and during the 1970’s drove Mitsubishi Galants and Lancers. He won the Southern Cross Rally twice and was runner up to Scotsman Andrew Cowan 4 times. In addition to his NSW successes, Barry placed 2nd in the 1979 Round Australia Trial and has competed in 2 London – Sydney Marathons. During all this rally activity, Barry also competed in numerous longer circuit racing events including driving at Bathurst 10 times.
